Capodanno is scheduled at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 6:30 p.m., September 6, 2022.  The Vice Supreme Master (VSM) of Calvert Province, Mike Thumm, has designated this year’s Memorial Mass as a provincial event. As always, the Virginia District constantly sets the example for Calvert Province by leading the charge in supporting this annual event with the bulk of the participants… I am sure we will do it again.  All SKs, family members, and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on the 55th anniversary of his death. EWTN is broadcasting this event courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.  Please pass this announcement to your Sir Knights as soon as possible so they are aware of this important memorial mass to remember Father Capodanno’s life as well as his heroic actions while serving as a Navy Chaplain in Vietnam… killed in action on September 4, 1987 as he aided embattled Marines. Father Capodanno posthumous received the Medal of Honor… “By his heroic conduct on the battlefield, and his inspiring example, Lt. Capodanno upheld the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life in the cause of freedom.” On May 21, 2006, Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien, the Archdiocese of the Military Services (AMS), officially proclaimed him as a Servant of God and thus formally initiating his Cause for Beatification and Canonization. For more information about the latest up-to-date news about his Cause for Beatification and Canonization and to read his Medal of Honor citation visit <https://www.capodannoguild.org/>. The Father Vincent Capodanno Guild is the only official organization established to promote his Cause for Canonization.    Here are the details about Father Capodanno’s Memorial Mass: Event: The Annual AMS Memorial Mass for Father Vincent R. Broglio, Archbishop for the AMS; Location: At the Crypt of The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Ave, NE, Washington, DC 20017; Muster Time/Location: 5:30 p.m./Crypt Church; Attire: The Official Regalia Dress (ORD) code apply – Beret; service baldric; white gloves; white shirt (no ruffles & no French cuffs); black footwear; black socks; miniature medals; jewels of office; PG-113 4th degree pin; NO SWORD allow in the Basilica. One final note: RSVP the number of participants from your assembly to me no later than Friday, September 2nd. Their head count is vital for me in making seating arrangements at the Basilica. If you have questions about this event, don’t hesitate to contact me.
